Kind of just, umm, "rolling paper" at this point

Hi All!

Figuring out what to do with myself this semester, I started with packing tape casts of my body, that I am using as armatures to pin ripped up pieces of thin paper around. Then I removed these paper shells and stitched the pieces together. I am going to play around with shellacking the paper, give it a slight durability and translucent sheen.

I have a slight idea of where to take them next, installation wise and in terms of incorporating some sort of clothing pieces, we shall see!

(Sumru, the blog lives on, we will not lose touch!)

(Leah! A big fat congratulations on the new job!!!)

  1. Casey, those look like ghosts! They also have an other-worldly quality about them. I like the tension between ghostly other-worldliness and dismembered body parts which are potentially gory.

  3. Those are from first semester, I was collecting so many cut tracing paper shapes that I was using as templates for the sewn relief forms, I started to sew them together (I was thinking of them as sort spinal forms). I tried playing around with them, hanging them from the ceiling to create a mini space a human could enter, but I didn't know how to resolve them or talk about them, they are a work in progress, just taped to some newsprint pinned to a cloth on my wall.

So funny you mention them, I haven't really considered them in a while!
