I've realized that the only way of showing specific tiny installations in my house is by taking pictures. I didn't show these because I am in NO WAY a photographer but then I thought, what the hell...if nothing else I'll get some solid criticism from real photographers.
So all and any criticism is welcome.
I'm hoping that the pictures make it clear that they themselves are remnants of specific events?
Dear Leah,
ReplyDeleteI am really interested in what you are doing- so many possibilities...
I find the piece with the human most compelling and convincing in the terms you speak of: remnants of a specific event. The others read as too open ended and in some cases the "figures" appear to be overwhelmed by the environment they are placed in- Although, now that I'm writing this, perhaps that quality of "what are those things doing on that shelf next to those books?" is worth pushing. Sometimes when I am thinking about how an idea reads I try it in its most extreme expression- either way- MORE of it and less of it.
I am also feebly using some photography now in the studio- mostly taking pictures of drawings that I have xeroxed, then xeroxing those photos ad nauseum. Reproduction Redux.
Can't wait to see everybody.
Love,
Sumru
Sumru that helps a ton! Thank you!

The second image I am most drawn to. Not only because of your work but the gesture within the frame. The light and color. I cant figure it out yet but there is something there I am very attracted to...It leaves me with no answer but my eye wanders through the image and conjurs up things on its own.
ReplyDeleteps. I am so pregnant I cant event think straight.
you and Sumru are brilliant and most helpful.
ReplyDeleteyou claim to not be able to think straight but you're helping me, and your comment on Sumru's latest upload is good, too.
