work in progress

I lay down and traced my own body and used this outline template to create the tracing paper patterns that make up these funny patchwork body fragments. The fabric is mostly from the insides of little girl dresses I have been collecting from Saver's. It does make me feel like a pervert, perusing Saver's kid dresses, peeking under all the skirts.

I think of you 6 awesome awesome artists often!

  1. Casey this is wonderful! I love it! I feel like a pervert because I like how perverted the work feels haha.
Have you seen that show "Hoarders"? You should check it out. It's sick but it relates. Only instead of random stuff you're using stand-in body parts.
It looks like you've been working hard.

  2. Thanks! I haven't seen the show Hoarders, but my roommate has told me about it before and it sounds kind of disturbing in how easy it could be to relate to the people on the show. It's funny that you thought of in conjunction with this work, i will totally check it out.

This semester, by the way, does feel a little more intense than last, in part due to vc project feeling a little more over my head and then the new direction of studio work. I think that's a good thing, though, more assuring than the work getting easier.

I feel like our work this semester relates visually. I really like your work so far, in all of its beautiful strangeness. It makes me think of intestines and excrement that are pristine and sweetly preserved, and are alluring, but vaguely repulsive. I'm totally into it.
