This is the book I started. I'm just messing around right now - seeing what I can do with gross/precious; nasty/cuddly. I'm trying to stay away from the idea of a strict narrative and go towards a kind of animal diary. Comments and criticism always welcome.

The way they are broken up when drawn makes them feel more alive to me. I think the text is really important. I can only make out parts of the text and I enjoy that more than being able to read it. They seems to border on something dirty and rugged but they are also really beautiful...I also like the book form, the drawings seems really delicate somehow and holding them in your hands seems more effective and I may have a stronger reaction to them. I cant wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteHey Leah,
ReplyDeleteHmmm, what are the bunnies thinking? The diary format as a voice and mark of personality is intriguing. I was in NYC this week and while driving down 5th Avenue, people watching- I noticed some poeple on the left side of the Avenue laughing, looking across the street and taking photos -I turned to see what the fuss was all about and there, as if you had conjured them in one of your drawings, was an entire picket line (about 15) of white rabbits picketing an Armani store- ( not actual bunnies, but folks in costume). Why are the Rabbits boycotting Armani?
I immediately thought of you Leah, and wished you were there to see the spectacle.
Talk soon,
Sumru
I like this Journal idea.
ReplyDeleteDid you make this journal by hand?
Would animals write in a book, or would it be like some sort of tree bark or stones or something like that. I don’t know, it just got me thinking. I think this is a great direction to pursue it looks very free and loose, but it is controlled. I really want to see more. Keep it up..And what’s up with Goat man?
Sumru and Ezra,
ReplyDeleteI have no answers to questions (I'm way too scatter-brained, or perhapsz the questions were rhetorical?), but your thoughts are great and I will be thinking about them! Thanks so nmuch! Can't wait so see what you are working on...
the spelling is a bit off - in my defence i'm using a computer with a terrible keyboard
